Abundant Promises
“Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep his promise.“
Hebrews 10:23 NLT
We know the Bible is overflowing with the promises God has made.
Everek R. Storms (1914-1983) of Canada’s United Missionary Church in Kitchener, Ontario, recorded 7,487 Biblical promises of God to man.
“For all of God’s promises have been fulfilled in Christ with a resounding “Yes!” And through Christ, our “Amen” (which means “Yes”) ascends to God for his glory.“ (2 Corinthians 1:20 NLT)
When we face difficult challenges, we can begin to feel overwhelmed. These are times we especially need to look to His treasury of promises.
“And because of his glory and excellence, he has given us great and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you to share his divine nature and escape the world’s corruption caused by human desires.“ (2 Peter 1:4 NLT)
God is faithful and able to do more than we can imagine. Let’s trust Him and pray with praise and thanksgiving as we search through His promises to us.
“And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus.“ (Philippians 4:19 NLT)
Every promise is so wonderful that we needn’t be concerned about how we’ll pick up the pieces of our lives as long as we’re truly the Lord’s children. The Lord’s plan for each of us is to prosper us and give us hope and a future. He listens to us and can be found by us!
If we’re suffering, let’s read His promises and bring them to Him in prayer, asking that He fulfil them. He is faithful to His promises, and expects us to remind Him of them.
Whatever your issues in life, regardless of how confusing things seem to you, trust in the promises of God.
“You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you! Trust in the LORD always, for the LORD God is the eternal Rock.“ (Isaiah 26:3-4 NLT)
So, in our difficult times we must search the Bible for promises and then present one to our heavenly Father for its fulfilment. This way we show the sovereignty of our God in “remembering” the promises and our responsibility as His children in pleading for their fulfilment.
“Soon I will die, going the way of everything on earth. Deep in your hearts you know that every promise of the LORD your God has come true. Not a single one has failed!“ (Joshua 23:14 NLT)
“O Joy that seekest me through pain, I cannot close my heart to thee; I trace the rainbow through the rain, and feel the promise is not vain, that morn shall tearless be.“ George Matheson
