He is Trustworthy
“And those who know your name put their trust in you, for you, O LORD, have not forsaken those who seek you.“
Psalm 9:10 ESV
The world tells us to be self-reliant and to stand firm in our own beliefs and values. To be independent thinkers who rely on ourselves instead of others, including God.
Relying on ourselves seems to come naturally. We get overwhelmed, and try to solve problems by our own devices. What God wants, however, is for us to stop trying to solve everything ourselves and look to Him for help and guidance.
“Whoever trusts in his own mind is a fool, but he who walks in wisdom will be delivered.“ (Proverbs 28:26 ESV)
“It is morally impossible to exercise trust in God while there is failure to wait upon Him for guidance and direction. The man who does not learn to wait upon the Lord and have his thoughts molded by Him will never possess that steady purpose and calm trust, which is essential to the exercise of wise influence upon others, in times of crisis and difficulty.“ D.E. Hoste
We should make it our #1 priority to learn to become comfortable talking to Him throughout the day, seeking His will for us.
“Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose trust is the Lord. He is like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream, and does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green, and is not anxious in the year of drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit.” (Jeremiah 17:7-8 ESV)
We know He’s trustworthy, because the Bible tells us, but do we really trust Him?
“You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you! Trust in the LORD always, for the LORD God is the eternal Rock.“ (Isaiah 26:3-4 NLT)
Growing a relationship with the Lord more and more each day gives us the advantage of being prepared when things go terribly wrong.
“They do not fear bad news; they confidently trust the LORD to care for them.“ (Psalm 112:7 NLT)
Our understanding is so limited. We know He wants what’s best for us, but we don’t know how to find out what it is.
“The very first evidence of awakening grace is dissatisfaction with one’s self and self-effort and a longing for deliverance from chains of sin that have bound the soul. To own frankly that I am lost and guilty is the prelude to life and peace. It is not a question of a certain depth of grief and sorrow, but simply the recognition and acknowledgment of need that lead one to turn to Christ for refuge. None can perish who put their trust in Him. His grace superabounds above all our sin, and His expiatory work on the cross is so infinitely precious to God that it fully meets all our uncleanness and guilt.” Harry Ironside
