Waiting and Watching

“Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour in which the Son of Man is coming.“
Matthew 25:13 NKJ

When our Lord comes again, “every eye shall see Him”.

Only a few thousand came near Jesus at His first coming. All humanity, from every generation, shall be assembled before Him when He returns.

Look! He comes with the clouds of heaven. And everyone will see him—even those who pierced him. And all the nations of the world will mourn for him. Yes! Amen!“ (Revelation 1:7 NLT)

When He comes again He will be the Judge of sin, and of all who have chosen to remain in their sins.

Don’t be afraid! I am the First and the Last. I am the living one. I died, but look—I am alive forever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and the grave.” Revelation 1:17 (NLT)

When He returns, creation shall be redeemed, the curse lifted, and all that was lost in the first Adam shall be reinstated.

Against its will, all creation was subjected to God’s curse. But with eager hope, the creation looks forward to the day when it will join God’s children in glorious freedom from death and decay. For we know that all creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time.“ (Romans 8:20-22 NLT)

Were it not for this amazing transformation at the second coming, Christians would be, of all people, the most miserable. Our great longing and desire is to be rid of this sinful nature, and have the complete freedom of God’s children.

For the sin of this one man, Adam, caused death to rule over many. But even greater is God’s wonderful grace and his gift of righteousness, for all who receive it will live in triumph over sin and death through this one man, Jesus Christ.“ (Romans 5:17 NLT)

Pray for patience as you suffer in this life Christian. You know that all the pain, suffering, and sorrow will soon be removed when Jesus returns.

Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; fret not yourself over the one who prospers in his way, over the man who carries out evil devices!“ (Psalm 37:7 ESV)

Celebrate the truth that Jesus came the first time and fulfilled all the promises of that advent. Because He was faithful to those promises, we may trust Him for all the promises surrounding His second Advent. The One Who has called us is trustworthy, and shall do it.

God will make this happen, for he who calls you is faithful.“ (1 Thessalonians 5:24 NLT)

“He will come; to judge all His enemies, the careless, the ungodly, the impenitent, and the unbelieving. He will come very suddenly, at an hour when no man thinks, as a thief in the night. He will come in terrible majesty, in the glory of His Father, with the holy angels. A flaming fire shall burn before Him. The dead shall be raised. The judgment shall be set.“ J.C. Ryle
