Pray for Wisdom
“I have prayed for you that your faith may not fail”
Luke 22:32 (NIV)
Do you sometimes think that your prayers don’t matter?
Words can be hard to come by. Your prayers seem flat and repetitive. You just don’t know what to say. That being so, the Bible says to ask the Lord for wisdom.
“If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” (James 1:5 NIV)
In today’s text, Jesus is asking that Peter’s faith wouldn’t fail. This was a very definite request. He was focusing specifically on Satan’s plan to tempt Peter that night. What we learn from this statement of Jesus is that His prayers are tailored to the needs of the individual.
Jesus didn’t ask the Father to exempt Peter from his trial. He asked that Peter’s faith wouldn’t fail under the enemy’s attack. Peter was about to be stretched to the limit—and to stumble in the process. However, because of Jesus’ specific prayer, he would rise again and be better qualified to help others.
In Matthew 20:32-33, Jesus answers the specific prayer of two blind men. “Jesus stopped and called them. “What do you want me to do for you?” he asked. “Lord,” they answered, “we want our sight.” (NIV)
If we want Jesus to pray for us, shouldn’t we trust Him to do what He says He will?
“Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us.” (Romans 8:34 NIV)
Can you say that Jesus has prayed for you? Are you finding this thought very important and meaningful during your difficulties?
He’s willing to come to your aid if you ask Him. Ask Him to pray for you. Ask Him to make you a child of God. Seek him while He may be found and call out to Him when He is near.
“Now there have been many of those priests, since death prevented them from continuing in office; but because Jesus lives forever, he has a permanent priesthood. Therefore he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them.“ (Hebrews 7:23-25 NIV)
If you know Jesus as your Saviour, take great comfort in the fact that He continually prays for you. And what Jesus asks for, He gets! His prayers make things happen.
“My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One.“ (1 John 2:1 NIV)
