Ambassadors for Christ

"We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God."
2 Corinthians 5:20 (NIV)

There are numerous terms to identify the people of God.

We're His sheep, dear children, ambassadors, and so on. The one I wish us to consider today is this term "ambassador".

Everyone knows what an ambassador is.

They're people who live in a foreign country to the land of their birth. They represent a foreign power and have a message from their government to the people of the country where they reside.

Christians have their citizenship in heaven and live on this earth as foreigners.

They not only speak the language of the land in which they reside but they also speak the language of heaven. Listening to Christians, the accent of heaven can be detected in their speech.

It gives them away.

Their first loyalty is not to the government of the country in which they live but rather to their king whose message they declare here on earth.

That message from our king is that in Jesus there is opportunity for people to be reconciled to God.

We're to warn people about the coming day of judgment.

We must tell them that only those who have come to Jesus and confessed Him as Lord and Saviour will have peace with God in that day.

It's certainly a great wonder that the Lord has committed to His people the task of spreading all over the world the Good News of salvation in Jesus.

It's also a great wonder for anyone to deny Jesus.

There's no wonder in people seeking forgiveness for sin in Jesus—we know our great need.

The wonder is that people put the matter off until it's too late.

Certain people know they have symptoms of cancer, but a misguided fear of knowing the truth causes them to ignore the symptoms until it is too late, and the disease has a death grip on them.

As soon as we sense our need of forgiveness, we ought to seek the One Who was called the "Lamb of God Who takes away the sin of the world" (John 1:29).

To my Christian readers I urge you to accept your role as an ambassador for Christ, and seek to deliver His message to someone today.

Pray for opportunity to give the Good News to someone—to anyone who will listen.

You may be the closest thing to heaven they will ever see and hear!

Do your work today and God shall surely bless your efforts.
