As I write this devotional it's early Sunday morning July 14, the day after the assassination attempt on Donald Trump. Regardless of our political affiliation, we are united in our opposition to such violence.
We need to pray earnestly for the Lord to intervene and send the Holy Spirit to “rain righteousness” on the earth. “It is time” for another group of preachers to rise up like Whitefield, and John & Charles Wesley, who (in the 1700s), could draw crowds of 15,000-25,000 on a few hours notice.
They would preach for an hour or two. The listeners wept their way to the cross. Prayer meetings spontaneously assembled with hundreds attending.
Church buildings couldn't contain the crowds that gathered to hang on every word of the preacher. Then (in 1859) another revival began in Britain. Following that, another began in Wales (1903-04) that spread to other countries. “It is time.”
We desperately need revival, because the world has lost its moral compass.
Little children and their teachers are shot in a school, and days later most of us can't remember the name of the school or how many lost their lives. Some even deny that the shootings occurred! “It is time.”
Sinful acts abound, and newspapers and television are full of gruesome reports of evil, heartbreaking events. So many people read their newspapers while enjoying supper, or have dessert and coffee while watching televised coverage of tragic events.
Then too, when looking for a movie to watch on the net, it’s a rare find if the movie doesn't have violence, nudity, profanity, (to some degree or another), and it's called, “entertainment”.
Are we that much better than the Romans of 2000 years ago who loved to see gladiators fight each other until one or both nearly died, or to watch hungry lions tear Christians apart ? What about present day boxing where the best fights include beating your opponent senseless? All that in the name of entertainment! “It is time.”
Our generation is likely as actively evil as any other preceding one. How earnestly should we Christians be storming heaven for a Spirit-sent revival! “It is time.”
A revival in the USA from 1857/58 began with a businessmen’s once-a-week lunch time prayer meeting, and the meeting grew from a handful to thousands of men in various locations throughout New York city—all seeking the Lord. The prayer meetings soon spread to other cities and went from weekly to daily events. The Spirit of God answered the passionate prayers of His people.
When is it our time? Our generation has not seen anything on the national or international scale of these historic movements. “It is time”
Will you take on the hard work of vigilant prayer for revival—starting by yourself if necessary? Will you invite others to join you?
Will you be bold enough to tell the Lord that you will not let Him go until He honours your request for a heaven sent revival?
