Security is big business. Some companies specialize in installing motion detectors, lights and cameras inside homes and company buildings. Motion detectors, cameras, and lights are also placed outside the buildings. The burglar alarm system will alert the property owner and police of any intruders. The owner’s phone may even show the signals from the cameras. Many newer makes of cars also have security systems to help prevent theft.
When it comes to our eternal destiny many people avoid the subject because of fear and ignorance of what is beyond death. In numerous situations of life people choose to ignore frightful situations out of fear of what may be beyond the immediate problem. So, symptoms of a possible cancer’s presence and death are both ignored in the vain hope that the problem will go away. Fear of the unknown clouds the thinking of many people. Sadly, for those who decide to ignore the issue does not make it go away.
Alas, there is information available to any who will listen, to inform them about what lies beyond the grave. Information in the Bible tells people about the two possible destinations beyond death—heaven and hell—one of which every person will exist in forever. The tragedy is that many people hope they will make it to heaven but do not have any evidence for why they will make it.
Only if we believe in the resurrected Jesus will we be eternally secure. Only the Good Shepherd has the authority to forgive our sins and pass us from eternal death to eternal life. He takes His responsibility very seriously as we see from today’s verses. Believers are eternally secure because we are held safe in the hands of both God the Father and in the love scarred hands of His Son.
Reader, do you take comfort because you are so wonderfully secure today? Are you at peace because you have confessed Jesus as your Lord, believing in your heart that He rose from the dead? Are you able to overcome your fear of death knowing the Good Shepherd has guaranteed your sins are forgiven?
What peace should fill our hearts as we ponder the fact that our exit from this life will be our entrance into the eternal joys of heaven! Take heart my reader, you are secure for all eternity because both the Father and His beloved Son are holding you close to their hearts. They will never let you go. You are eternally secure.
My name from the palms
of His hands
eternity will not erase;
impressed on His heart it remains,
in marks of indelible grace.
Yes, I to the end shall endure,
as sure as the earnest is giv’n;
more happy, but not more secure,
the glorified spirits in heav’n.
