The expression, make haste slowly has been around since the time of the Roman Empire, and refers to the need to be deliberate in action in order to avoid making mistakes, and avoid having to attempt something more than once.

One night I rode with my son (a paramedic) as he responded to the dispatchers assignments for him. Because of his high level of training, He was only sent to high risk calls. The first call that night was the most dramatic.

We were sent to the home of a senior citizen. The patient had a heart rate of 10 beats a minute. He was going to die if help was not given quickly. I marveled at the speed with which my son unpacked his gear, started an IV line and hooked him up to a heart monitor and pacemaker.

There was no wasted movement as the medical tools were swiftly attached to his body.  Yet for all the speed, my son never gave the illusion of panic. He appeared calm and in control at all times.

Our great God and Saviour is just like that.

He never wastes time nor engages in fruitless activity. W. C. Smith wrote the following words in praise to God: Unresting, unhasting, and silent as light. Nor wanting nor wasting, Thou rulest in might.

Nothing takes God by surprise, nothing outsmarts Him, nothing overpowers Him. Nothing exhausts His resources.

God is all wise, all powerful, all knowing, fully capable to meet any alternative in our world. If we submit to His authority we shall have be given everything we need to do His will.

God is never in a hurry to complete what He starts.

God never fails to accomplish everything he sets out to do.

God is undefeated. He always completes everything He begins.

When the Lord commences a work of salvation in anyone's life, you may be confident that He will complete that work. Paul in Philippians 1:6 (NIV) wrote,

"...being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus."

If you have been brought to faith in Jesus, you are certain to have the good work completed that the Lord began in you.

There may be times when you think the Lord has turned from you but it will never happen. You are as sure of heaven as though you were already there.

If you have wished that God would hurry up and finish His good work in you, remember that God makes haste slowly. The good work is sure to be completed but in God's time and not ours.

Be patient He will do all He has promised.
