Transformers—a toy phenomenon that began in the 1980s—are toy robots that can change into an alternate form, such as vehicles, animals, etc. Thus the name.
Transformation of a similar nature is promised in scripture for God's people—where they transform from one condition to another.
Usually the transformation involves a radical shift from weeping to laughter, from sinful to holy, from temporal to everlasting, from weakness to strength, or from weeping to rejoicing.
This transformation refers to the time when Christians shall become just like Jesus (1 John 3:2).
In this life, believers in Jesus are constantly striving to make that transformation as seamless as possible (2 Corinthians 3:18).
We work diligently to be holy so the change to perfection at Jesus' coming will not be too radical.
We try to keep ourselves focused on what is eternal so that even in this life we rejoice with joy unspeakable (1 Peter 1:8).
Yet, for all the times that we rejoice, we have those dark nights of the soul when hope fades, life seems dreary and we even doubt our faith.
All through the Bible we read of spiritual giants who fought depression (Psalm 73), questioned the purpose of life and wished they had never been born (Job 3), or like Peter, they may even momentarily deny the Lord Who bought them (Matthew 26:74).
Nowhere in Scripture do we read that it's sinful to weep over the hardship of this life.
What we do read in the Bible is that a glorious day is coming in which we shall finally put off the time of sorrow and weeping in order to have everlasting joy (Isaiah 61:7).
During our times of grief and suffering we ought to be crying out to the Lord for Him to shorten the time until He returns to bring justice and judgment upon the world.
In Psalm 13:1-2 (NIV) we read the following: "How long, Lord? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me? How long must I wrestle with my thoughts and day after day have sorrow in my heart? How long will my enemy triumph over me?"
Pray this short prayer in Psalm 13 to the Lord in your time of difficulty.
Call on Him to fulfil His promise to turn your tears to laughter—your sorrow to joy.
He will hear your prayer and soon enough your night of mourning shall be transformed to the day of rejoicing.
