Children are truly amazing at times. Occasionally they are able to say the most profound things.
A granddaughter of ours was visiting with her mom, our daughter. Sitting on her mom’s lap she was being told that mommy was going away for a few days and Gramma and Grandad would be caring for her. The little one gently placed her hands on both sides of her mother’s face and said, “Don’t worry Mommy, God will be with you.”
The coming separation could make the mother lonely, and so the child wanted to offer words of comfort. She spoke a wonderful promise from Scripture that assures us of the Lord’s abiding presence (Hebrews 13:5).
How significant a truth it is that the child of God will receive everything necessary to meet the demands of life. Such a truth gives us confidence when an unwanted issue appears on our horizon. Whether the issue will leave us or stay with us is not the most important matter. What is of prime concern is the fact that our sovereign God is always with us and promises to make us adequate for every alternative.
Does this mean we do not pray for the problem to disappear? Of course not!
We have excellent examples of prayer for relief from problems as we hear our Lord in Gethsemane praying that the cup might pass, and Paul praying the thorn in his flesh might be removed.
When prayer does not remove the problem, then we pray for grace to learn how to live with it. Here we plead the promises such as Philippians 4:19 calling on the Lord to provide the needed grace for the challenge at hand (2 Cor 12:9).
May you have grace to know the wonders of the Lord’s power in your life today and may you find yourself content whatever your situation.
Pray for relief from the intruder, and then, if need be, pray for endurance to continue in spite of the thorns presence.
Everything God sends our way is necessary anything He withholds is not.
