There's a saying in the western world that says "When all else fails, read the directions".
While we might think that reading the instructions is a waste of time, and assembling or operating some new device just takes common sense, we usually find out that what seemed to be simple is more complicated than we thought.
This sense of self-sufficiency seems to affect all types of people.
The problem is, what could have been a relatively easy task turns into something that takes more time, money, and worse. So we're usually forced, after all, to take the time needed and read the instructions.
It's the same with life.
We muddle along seeking to solve this issue or that without taking the time needed to read the answers that can be found in God's User's Guide to Life, the Bible.
This is what the Psalmist discovered. To him, the Word of God was a light in the darkness.
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight." Proverbs 3:5-6 (NASB)
Does your way forward seem dark and frightening?
Ask the Lord to help you search the Bible for scripture that is clear (and relevant) to your situation. Use a topical Bible and look up the section on knowing the will of God—or a subject that relates to your specific situation.
You might ask your pastor for direction on what verses to read. There may be a biblical character you can relate to.
Many find comfort reading the Psalms.
Isaiah 40, Habakkuk, Psalm 23, Psalm 91, Psalm 121 are great passages to stabilize the weary Christian.
We may not get answers to why we have to walk a more difficult road than others, but we'll find the way to navigate through life's difficult passages.
Turn to God's Word prayerfully (and expectantly) today for help.
He has promised to supply your need. That means helping you find out how to deal with the issue facing you, not why it happened.
Go to the Bible and listen for guidance, for encouragement, for comfort.
The Lord is waiting to speak to you. Go to Him right now.
"The mind of a person plans his way, But the Lord directs his steps." Proverbs 16:9 (NASB)
