The identity of Jesus is the most important truth for anyone to consider.
We must hear the Gospel and read the accounts of Jesus’ life.
We need to see Christ in the lifestyle and words of His people in order to be drawn to a personal faith in Christ.
As we read about the Nazarene and witness Him remaking His followers into His own image, we too find ourselves amazed, in awe, and in love with Him.
One of the greatest scientists in history, Sir Isaac Newton (whose scientific output was remarkable), was a professing Christian and it was said he spent more time reading his Bible than he spent on his scientific pursuits.
Albert Einstein, another of histories towering intellects (though not a Christian), had this to say after studying the Christian Gospels:
“I am a Jew, but I am enthralled by the luminous figure of the Nazarene. Jesus is too colossal for the pen of phrasemongers, however artful.”
He further added: “No man can read the gospels without feeling the actual presence of Jesus. His personality pulsates in every word. No myth is filled with such life...Theseus and other heroes of his type lack the authentic vitality of Jesus. Jesus is too colossal for the pen of phrasemongers, however artful. No man can dispose of Christianity with a bon mot.” (a witty or clever statement)
John Newton (1725-1807) wrote many hymns including the beloved “Amazing Grace”.
Among his other poems we treasure is the following:
What think you of Christ? That’s the test
To try both your state and your scheme;
You cannot be right in the rest,
Unless you think rightly of him;
As Jesus appears in your view,
As he is beloved or not,
So God is disposed to you,
And mercy, or wrath are your lot”
As you study the accounts of Jesus’ life in the Gospels, allow the stories of this awesome Person to fill all your vision today.
May you say today what Peter confessed so long ago when asked by his Master, “Who do you say I am?”: “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”
